Redesigning the Townspeople’s website, to showcase its expanded mission and services while reflecting its 40-year history

Since 1984, Townspeople, a San Diego community-based nonprofit organization, has been a trusted ally and lifeline for those facing homelessness and living with HIV/AIDS or other medical vulnerabilities.
Over the years, Townspeople expanded its reach to help more people experiencing homelessness, including veterans. Today, the organization owns and operates four affordable apartment complexes totaling 118 units, oversees an additional 13 units of supportive housing.
It also provides eligible residents with short-term rental assistance, and provides information and referrals for issues related to housing, food, case management, government benefits, and social supports.
Overview
Townspeople Executive Director Melissa Peterman began exploring in 2021 how shared housing might serve as a solution to homelessness for clients not already living in the 118 homes it owns and operates.
That exploration led to establishing of The San Diego Shared Housing Collaborative, an initiative funded by a $200,000 grant from Funders Together to End Homelessness San Diego that allowed Townspeople to expand high-quality housing opportunities in the region and bring the organization one step closer to ending homelessness in San Diego.
In March 2023, LIMIT8 was awarded the contract to thoroughly redesign the organization’s website, with the goal of showcasing its expanded mission and services while reflecting its 40-year history.
The Result
The refreshed website offers a contemporary look and feel, appealing to staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and Townspeople’s clients, and invites community members to get involved in its mission.
